Per la prima volta in Italia una mostra presenta oltre 100 opere di Niki de Saint Phalle (Neuilly-sur-Seine, 1930 – San Diego, 2002), pittrice, scrittrice, performer che ha legato il suo nome a un percorso artistico straordinario che va oltre le classificazioni e le mode, e si mescola con una vita tumultuosa e affascinante.

La mostra è promossa e ideata dalla Fondazione Roma, presieduta dal Prof. Avv. Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele che ha voluto rendere omaggio all’artista francese portando in Italia una mostra antologica di una celebre esponente della pop art.

L’itinerario individuato da Stefano Cecchetto, curatore della mostra, segue il percorso interiore dell’artista e permette lo sviluppo parallelo di un’esposizione che allinea numerosi dipinti del primo periodo dell’artista, degli anni cinquanta e sessanta, insieme alle celebri sculture policrome (Nanas) per le quali Niki de Saint-Phalle è famosa in tutto il mondo.

Le oltre 100 opere che compongono la rassegna provengono per la maggior parte dalla Niki Charitable Art Foundation di San Diego in California.

Il percorso della mostra si articola in quattro capitoli, "Le stanze della memoria",che raccontano la genesi e la maturità artistica di Niki.

La prima sezione, Le Origini, racconta la nascita concettuale del suo percorso artistico: dalle prime esperienze legate alle influenze surrealiste e alla fascinazione per l’opera di Antoni Guadì, fino alla consapevolezza di una metamorfosi che porta l’artista a sperimentare nuovi linguaggi e nuovi temi iconografici.

Spiritual Path, seconda sezione della mostra, ha come protagonisti Niki de Saint Phalle e il marito Jean Tinguely, la coppia esplosiva che ha rivoluzionato l’arte del Novecento.
Femminismo, mitologia, violenza, le inquietudini private e quelle sociali, sono i temi che permeano le opere di Niki de Saint Phalle. Opere mai disgiunte dalla sua vita e attraverso la mostra, che presenta anche una serie di fotografie, sarà possibile percepire il fil-rouge che collega le diverse e intersecate esperienze della sua tormentata vicenda artistica.

Nella terza sezione, Nana Power, entrano in scena le ragazze: Les Nanas, le celebri sculture policrome che nascono dal desiderio di comunicare l’universo femminile in tutte le sue forme.

Il Giardino dei Tarocchi, ultima sezione della mostra, offrirà la possibilità al visitatore di vedere i bozzetti e i disegni che hanno portato alla creazione del famosissimo giardino dei Tarocchi di Capalbio ispirato al Parc Guell di Gaudì a Barcellona e costruito a proprie spese dall’artista insieme a Jean Tinguely.

Una mostra con caratteristiche eccezionali, anche dal punto di vista della fruizione da parte del pubblico: tutti i bambini fino a 14 anni potranno visitare la rassegna con ingresso gratuito grazie all’impegno della Fondazione Roma e di Arthemisia Group. Una iniziativa che si incontra con lo speciale rapporto che Niki de Saint-Phalle aveva con i bambini: l’artista li invitò spesso a fruire da vicino le sue opere, particolarmente adatte al pubblico dei più piccoli, chiedendo anche di interagire con esse. Per questa ragione, il Presidente Emanuele ha deciso di offrire ai giovani questa straordinaria opportunità.

For the first time in Italy an exhibition is set to present more than 100 works by Niki de Saint Phalle, (Neuilly-sur-Seine, 1930 – San Diego, 2002), an artist, writer and performer whose extraordinary career defied classification and transcended fashion, and was matched by her eventful and glamorous life. The exhibition has been conceived and organised by the Fondazione Roma, chaired by Prof. Avv. Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele, who wished to pay tribute to the French artist by bringing to Italy an anthological exhibition dedicated to this famous exponent of pop art. The path chosen by the curator follows the artist’s interior development and allows for the parallel creation of an exhibition that brings together numerous paintings from the artist’s early career, in the fifties and sixties, together with the famous multicoloured statues (the Nanas) that Niki de Saint Phalle is famous for throughout the world.

Most of the works, more than 100 in all, that make up the exhibition, come from the Niki Charitable Art Foundation in San Diego, California. The exhibition is divided into four chapters, “The Rooms of Memory”, that reveal Niki’s genesis as an artist and her artistic maturity. The first section, The Origins, presents the conceptual genesis of her artistic career: from her early experiences influenced by surrealism and her fascination with the works of Antoni Gaudì, up to her awareness of a personal metamorphosis that led the artist to experiment with new languages and new iconographic themes.

Spiritual Path, the second section of the exhibition, focuses on Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, the explosive couple that revolutionised twentieth century art. Feminism, mythology, violence, and personal and social turmoil are the themes that pervade Niki de Saint Phalle’s oeuvre. Her works never stand apart from her life and the exhibition, which also presents a series of photographs, reveals the leitmotiv that connects the varied, intersecting experiences that characterise her tumultuous artistic career.

In the third section, Nana Power, we meet Les Nanas: the famous multicoloured sculptures that arose from her need to convey the female universe in all its forms.

The Tarot Garden, the last section in the exhibition, gives visitors the chance to see the sketches and designs that led to the creation of the famous Tarot Garden in Capalbio, inspired by Gaudì’s Parc Guell in Barcelona and built at the artist’s own expense and with the help of her husband Jean Tinguely.

The event promises to be an exceptional one, for visitors too: all children up to the age of 14 are entitled to free admission, thanks to Fondazione Roma and Arthemisia Group. This initiative reflects the special rapport that Niki de Saint Phalle had with children, whom she often invited to interact with her works, particularly suited for a younger audience. In the light of this the Chairman of the Foundation has decided to offer young visitors this extraordinary opportunity.

“NELL’OFFICINA DI NIKI”
Un laboratorio didattico dedicato ai più piccoli per ripercorrere e comprendere l’opera dell’artista

I bambini da spettatori si trasformeranno in artisti per dare forma all’ALBERO DELLA VITA, un mosaico colorato e polimaterico che si comporrà nel corso della mostra, dando la possibilità ai piccoli artisti di interagire con i materiali più svariati.
Sull’albero verranno appese piccole sculture colorate, realizzate dai bambini, raffiguranti animali, costruzioni architettoniche fantastiche e figure umane ispirate allo stile dell’artista.
